Golden Slipper Camp for Boys and Girls
Frequently Asked Questions from Staff Members
When should I apply?
The earlier you send us an application, the better your chances will be of getting the job you want. We start our hiring process in November. Once we have heard from the previous summers' staff and learn who plans to return, we know what jobs are available. Having your application early helps us find the best position for your qualifications. To find out what positions are still available, please call 610-660-0520 or email us at staff@goldenslipper.org.
How long is the camp season?
Staff training begins the third week of June, and camp runs until the third week of August. There are some jobs available in the spring and fall (early May through September) for staff looking to work longer.
How often are days off?
There are 6 days off from the time the campers arrive until camp ends. Regular days off run from 4:00pm until 3:00pm the following day. Staff members are allowed to leave camp on four nights each week, in the evening after their campers have gone to bed (after 10:30pm). All staff must return to camp by 12:45am.
How old are most of the staff?
Most staff members at Golden Slipper Camp are between 17 and 25 years old. We do have many staff in their late 20s and 30s. Most counselors and specialists are in college, and the average age is about 20. Virtually all of our Village Leaders and many of our Head Specialists are college graduates and professionals who are able to take the summer off and come to camp.
Where do most staff come from?
Most of our staff members are from the Greater Philadelphia area, and a smaller percentage are from across the U.S., Europe, Australia, and other parts of the world. Golden Slipper Camp is the ideal place to meet and make friendships with people from all corners of the earth.
Do staff live with campers?
Cabin counselors and activity instructors (specialists) live with the campers. Senior Staff and support staff (maintenance, dining room, etc.) live in staff cabins.
Does the camp provide laundry services?
Staff can send their laundry to our laundry service for free. Our weekly service picks up our laundry at camp and returns it the following day.
How much will I get paid?
Golden Slipper Camp offers excellent salaries. Your salary will depend on your age, position and experience. Besides compensation, Golden Slipper Camp also provides room and board. So, with the exception of what you spend on days off, you have virtually no expenses while at camp.
When will I be paid?
Your salary is paid in two installments. The first installment is at the end of the first camp session. The second installment is at the end of the season. Any mandatory deductions (due to Government Regulations) will be withheld from your total salary. Salary checks will be given to you at camp.
Are there computers and internet access at camp?
Yes, we have several computers and a high-speed internet connection at camp.
What do I need to bring with me to camp?
You will receive a detailed clothing list in the spring, which will include information about the weather at camp, our activities, etc.
Can I have my friends / family visit me at camp?
You may bring visitors into camp only at the start of your day off, and the office must be notified in advance. You can then take them on a short tour of camp.
